Dr. Anthony Ephremides to established the Anthony Ephremides Endowed Graduate Fellowship in May 2016 to support graduate fellowships in the field of Information Science and Systems in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering.
Dr. Anthony Ephremides holds the Cynthia Kim Eminent Professorship Chair of Information Technology in the A. James Clark School of Engineering. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Institute for Systems Research, of which he was a founding member. He is also a member of and former Co-Director of the Maryland Hybrid Networks Center (HyNEI), formerly known as the Center for Hybrid and Satellite communication Networks (CHSCN). He received his B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 1967 and the M.A. and PhD. degrees also in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1969 and 1971, respectively. Ephremides Endowed Fellowships Agreement Page 1 He has served in many capacities in the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and other organizations, from local organization posts to President of the Information Theory Society and
member of the Institute Board of Directors, including Technical Program Chair and General Chair of Major Conferences. His honors and awards also include receiving the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory Alan Berman Research Publication Award in 2007, the IEEE Information Theory Society Aaron Wyner Distinguished Service Award in 2006, the Kirwan Research and Scholarship Prize from the University of Maryland in 2002 and the IEEE Millennium Medal in 2000. A longtime philanthropic supporter of the University of Maryland, Dr. Ephremides in 2007 established the Anthony Ephremides Chair in Information Sciences and Systems at the A. James Clark School of Engineering.
