Friends and family of the late Dr. Richard L. Matteson established the Dr. Richard L. Matteson Scholarship in his memory in April 2016 to provide merit-based scholarships for Human Development and Quantitative Methodology students in the College of Education.
In 2014, family and friends of the late Richard L. Matteson established the Dr. Richard L. Matteson Scholarship Fund in his memory to support Human Development and Quantitative Methodology students. Dr. Matteson received his doctorate in human development from me University of Maryland in 1962. A professor at the College of Education for more than 30 years, Matteson focused his career on empowering students and supporting their goals. He was known for developing close connections with his students in the classroom and beyond. He offered his home to students, helped them pay for college, assisted them in the grant process, and celebrated their career successes. He is remembered as a father figure and a proud Maryland alumnus, holding football season tickets for more than 50 years and taking pride in his four children as they attended various University System of Maryland institutions. His generosity and spirit will be remembered through the newly established Dr. Richard L. Matteson Endowed Scholarship.
