Edward B. Byrd Scholarship in Agriculture

Scholarship History

The Edward B. Byrd Foundation was formed by Edward and Irma Byrd. Its mission is to support and advance the field of agriculture within the State of Maryland through the education and training of persons in careers in agriculture, including but not limited to utilizing the Byrd Foundation's existing real property in conjunction with other non-profit agricultural educational organizations as a working farm to be operated as a training facility for those pursuing agricultural careers; providing grants to non-profit educational institutions and local non-profit organizations in order for such other 501 (c) (3) organizations to award scholarships, tuition assistance or other financial aid to persons interested in pursuing careers in agriculture; to fund and assist in the development and presentation of educational programs to inspire young people to choose agricultural careers; to provide land and buildings to be utilized for research and training in the field of agriculture; and, to provide grants and other forms of assistance to be qualified 501 (c) (3) organizations to promote the Byrd Foundation's goals of improving and expanding agricultural studies, services and products within the State of Maryland.
