Bob Baker grew up in Baltimore County and studied engineering at the University of Maryland. He had a successful career as a systems equipment engineer, retiring from Lucent Technologies. Carol Baker graduated from Frostburg State University and retired from Harford County Public Schools after an illustrious career as an elementary school teacher. The Bakers are avid supporters of the University, particularly the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and are renowned for having attended every Terrapins football game, home and away, since 1976. Bob is a former president of the Terrapin Club Board of Directors, and served as a member of the Terrapin Club board for 18 years.
With their belief in higher education as a means to improve people and communities, and their interest in supporting students who are in need of financial aid, in June 2014, Bob and Carol Baker established an endowed fund to support need-based scholarships for undergraduate students at the University of Maryland, College Park. It is the sincere hope of the Donors that the students who receive assistance from this endowment will one day “pay it forward” and will themselves become contributors to the University.
