K. M. Vijayalakshmi established the K. P. and Jayalakshmi Muddappa Graduate Award for Economics in January 2011 to award a graduate student on the basis of an essay expressing their interest in pursuing post-graduation career opportunities in India.
K. M. Vijayalakshmi ’71 established the K. P. Muddappa and Jayalakshmi Muddappa Graduate Award for Economics in memory of her parents, Mr. K. P. Muddappa and Mrs. Jayalakshmi Muddappa. Mr. Muddappa, a leading advocate (lawyer) in Bangalore, India, financed his education from an early age through graduate school entirely on scholarships. Both he and his wife encouraged their children to obtain higher education. This award was established in appreciation of their value and encouragement of education.
