James V. Bodycomb ’67 and Linda Bodycomb established the Jim and Linda Bodycomb Endowed Scholarship in August 2008 to support students in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Jim Bodycomb was born in New Jersey and raised in Missouri and Maryland, where he graduated from the University of Maryland with a BSEE degree in 1967. He undertook graduate studies at the University of Illinois (MS) and Columbia University (EE) and devoted his career to telecommunications, working for Bell Labs, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies. He retired from Lucent as Switching Product Management Vice President in 2000. In retirement, Jim became a member of the University of Maryland's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Advisory Board, serving as Board President from 2006 to 2008. Linda, also born in New Jersey, was educated at Morehead State University and Rutgers University. Her career spanned a wide variety of professions: social work/paralegal, systems analyst, and costume designer for professional theater.
Appreciating the value of a strong academic background, Jim and Linda Bodycomb seek to afford others the opportunity to take advantage of the excellent undergraduate program in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland. In order to do so, they established an endowed fund to support undergraduate engineering students.
