William D. Godwin Scholarship

Scholarship History

William D. Godwin 63, grandson of Thomas B. Symons, established the William D. Godwin Scholarship in January 2006 to provide annual scholarships for undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. This fund recognizes his family's long history of support for Maryland and the support he received as a student in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. His grandfather was Thomas Symons, an alumnus of Maryland Agricultural College, class of 1902, who received an honorary Doctor of Agriculture degree from the university in 1918. He was associated with the university for 72 years as student, professor, director of the Cooperative Extension Service, dean of the College of Agriculture, interim president and a Regent.
