Quinn Teaching Scholarship

Scholarship History

Lee W. Quinn 72 and his friends and family established the Quinn Teaching Scholarship in December 2004 to award one male and one female student in the Department of Kinesiology who are student teaching in preparation for a career as physical education teachers. This fund was established in appreciation of the faculty of the university, most notably Dr. Burris Husman, under whom he received the education and encouragement necessary within the field of physical education.

Donor Statement

The family of Dr. Lee W. Quinn '72 established, through the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., an endowed fund to support scholarships for students enrolled in the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Maryland, College Park, who are not receiving athletic scholarships and who plan to become teachers in the area of physical education. Scholarships awarded from this endowment will recognize the high achievement of these special students who have unique perceptions, skills and experiences and who desire to enhance the mental and physical growth and development of future generations through the highly competitive field of classroom education.

By initiating this endowment, Dr. Quinn wishes to express his appreciation to the faculty of the University, most notably Dr. Burris Husman, under whom he was fortunate to receive the education and encouragement necessary to achieve whatever contributions he was able to make to others within the field of physical education. He also wishes to recognize and encourage those with unique interests and abilities who are preparing to teach classroom physical education and who believe in the value of lifelong physical activity for all humans.
