Established November 19, 1973, by the Department of Microbiology at UMCP in memory of Professor P. A. Hansen who passed away June 2, 1972, shortly before his retirement from 27 years of service to the Department. The income is to be used for a prize to be awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate in the Department's Honors Program.
