Scholarship History

Karen Gray Houston, friends and family established the K. Christopher Houston Scholarship in October 2006 to support students in the broadcast program.

Donor Statement

Kermit Christopher "Chris" Houston graduated from the University of Maryland in 1985 and began a distinguished career in journalism. He worked for CNN Headline News in Atlanta and later joined the news staff at WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C. During his tenure at WUSA, he oversaw coverage of many noteworthy historical events including the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States and the 2002 Washington area sniper shootings. His career at WUSA spanned 18 years and came to an early close when he lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on January 28, 2006.
